The nomination process begins throughout the district. Principals establish a Teacher of the Year selection process to identify a candidate who best meets the selection criteria. Download the Teacher of the Year Nomination Form.

January 2027 Essays are read and ranked by the District Teacher of the Year Selection Committee. 
May 2027 Teachers of the Year will be recognized. Two District Teachers of the Year will be announced. 

Program Overview

 
Twin Rivers Unified School District is pleased to participate in the Teacher of the Year (TOY) program through the Sacramento County Office of Education. This program highlights educational innovation, student learning and the rewards of teaching. The Teacher of the Year process pays tribute to our teaching force, the complexity of challenges that confront our schools and the need to promote collaboration and teamwork to meet those challenges. Anyone may submit a nomination form - staff members, students, families and community members as well as teachers themselves.

Who may be nominated for Teacher of the Year?
Fully credentialed teachers, including teachers not assigned to school sites, may serve as Teacher of the Year. However, in order to be considered as a District Teacher of the Year, the candidate must have been teaching for at least a total of eight years in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. (Note: pre-kindergarten teachers that hold multiple subject and ECE Education Specialist credentials are eligible for consideration). Only classroom teachers can advance to the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) Teachers of the Year program.  
 
Who can submit a nomination for Teacher of the Year?
Any person – teacher, colleague, parent, student, district employee, or community member, may submit a nomination. Self-nominations are also accepted. 
 
Who selects the District Teacher of the Year?
District Selection Committees are comprised of district employees. They will select two District Teachers of the Year (representing PreK-6 and 7-12).
