Career Technical Education (CTE) is a sequence of courses that combines academic instruction with industry-aligned technical and professional skills. Students gain hands-on experience in high-demand career fields such as technology, healthcare, construction, and the arts, often including certifications, internships, or work-based learning. CTE programs help students develop problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills while preparing for college, technical training, or the workforce. These programs are designed to provide a clear pathway from high school to postsecondary education and career success.

 

Higher Graduation Rates for CTE Students - 99.2% graduation rate for California CTE concentrators compared with about 86.4% for all students statewide.  

Completing a CTE pathway is one of the measures used in California’s College/Career Indicator (CCI) on the California School Dashboard.

Twin Rivers offers 31 CTE pathways in high school and 8 in middle school, representing 11 of California’s 15 industry sectors. Each pathway allows students to explore careers, develop technical and professional skills, and prepare for both college and the workforce. In addition, all high schools offer Work Experience Education courses, giving students hands-on job experience, workplace skills, and industry connections while earning high school credit. These programs help students gain confidence, apply what they learn in the classroom, and get a head start on their future careers.

 

The Work Experience Education course combines on-the-job training with career readiness instruction in the classroom. We’ll teach you how to advance beyond entry-level jobs after graduation, setting you up for success in your future career. You’ll develop professional skills, build your resume, and make valuable connections in the workplace. Jump-start your future and gain confidence as you prepare for college, technical training, or a career.
 
Work Experience is an elective for juniors and seniors with a part-time job and valid work permit, offered at all Twin Rivers high schools.
