"Children will grow into the intellectual life around them" Lev Vygotsky
A young child's point of entry on the learning continuum begins long before they enter preschool. As a matter of fact, there is evidence that "babies are learning some things about the outside world while still in utero" (DeCasper & Spence, 1986, pg. 188).
Morey Avenue Early Childhood Development Center is a "safe space" where young children can maximize their learning potential. It is a place where educators uphold the highest expectations for all youngsters, irrespective of their developmental abilities. At Morey, we recognize the importance of children acquiring the necessary concepts and skills at their own pace. Therefore, we are intentional about individualizing and personalizing instruction for our children. The staff at Morey care deeply for our children and believe that teaching and learning should always honor the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. At Morey, families are supported and valued for their bonds, traditions and dreams for their children, and commitment to work, home, and community. Finally, the distinct racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity that exists among Morey staff, children, and families fosters a community of mutual respect and numerous learning opportunities that will last a lifetime!
