Vista Nueva provides a smaller learning community of approximately 150-160 students with smaller class sizes where staff and teachers know all students by name.
Students are under the watchful eye and provided with guidance and support from the administration, teachers, counselors, staff, and a network of volunteers.
In 2025-2026, students are offered the opportunity to be part of the Student Alliance Program, as well as Leadership, which will provide them with life skills lessons and prepare them for college and career.

In 2025-2026, The Construction Trades class took 1st place in the Sacramento shed building competition.
- Additional credits can be earned outside of the regular school day through the credit recovery program (CHARGE), which helps students to get back on track for graduation or return to their home school
- Vista provides opportunities for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) testing, intramural sports, college fairs and field trips annually to places like museums and the Defense Language Institute in Monterey
Excellence in Education
- Vista's graduating class has the opportunity to enroll in local junior colleges and Historical Black Colleges and Universities
- Vista seniors aspiring to go to college will also work with local representatives from United College Action Network (U-CAN) to gain admittance into Historically Black Colleges
- English teachers trained in the Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum by Sacramento State (which helps those students going to college and into a career)
- Teachers attend workshops with a consultant group on Social and Emotional Learning
Notable Accomplishments
- In 2023-2024, students in the Construction Trades Program participated in the annual shed building contest for the greater Sacramento region
- 2022-2023 Golden State Seal Merit Diploma recipient
- Vista students have participated on the national level for Sacramento Area Youth Speaks as part of the district's team
- Leadership students have been selected to work as camp counselors for the Youth Development Network
- Students have given presentations on the schools' needs to both the district school leadership and the Board of Trustees
- Historically Black Colleges have accepted five Vista Nueva seniors as well as the local college, William Jessup University
Career Technical Education
- Work Study Program (CTE)
- Vista Nueva students will take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test to help in career choices
Advanced Coursework
- All senior English classes in 2024-2025 are taught with the basis being Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum from Sacramento State University
- Teachers received training and taught lessons in social-emotional learning
- Students will be able to take Forensic Science for the first time
Community Relations
Making literacy a universal focus, Vista Nueva students will continue traveling to local elementary schools to read stories to the younger students of Twin Rivers, and promote reading at the elementary level.
