School Fact Sheet

To inspire each student to extraordinary achievement every day

School Highlights

At Norwood Junior High School, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where academic excellence is expected and encouraged. Students engage in a rigorous and challenging curriculum designed to prepare them for success in high school, college, career, and beyond. Norwood serves approximately 450 students in grades seven and eight and offers a variety of academic, extracurricular, and enrichment opportunities that support the growth and achievement of every student.

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
We offer a certified AVID program that promotes college and career readiness through a schoolwide focus on academic achievement, organizational skills, and student success. AVID supports students in both seventh and eighth grades as they prepare for high school, college, and future career opportunities.

Instructional Technology
Each classroom and teacher incorporates technology to support the learning progressions of every student. Teachers are equipped with SMART Interactive TVs, whiteboards, document cameras, LCD projectors, and speaker systems to support engaging and effective instruction. Through Aeries, students and families can access grades, assignments, attendance, and important school information online. Norwood also utilizes the MINGA platform to support student engagement, monitor activities, and provide updates on extracurricular programs, events, and opportunities.

Academic Support
While Norwood incorporates cutting-edge technology tools, NJHS also believes in providing students with opportunities to learn, think, and create without the aid of technology. Through self-discovery, critical thinking, and teacher-guided instruction, students develop the foundational skills and independence necessary for lifelong learning. This is why Norwood offers academic support to students both during and after school. The After-school program, known as the Expanded Learning Program, is available to provide additional academic support for students who need assistance in core subject areas. In addition, after-school tutoring is offered to all students, providing opportunities for enrichment, homework assistance, and academic growth. Students demonstrating failure in any subject area will meet with the Counselor and academic support staff regarding their failing grade.

Music Program
Norwood offers four music periods and one choir period, giving students multiple opportunities to explore and develop their musical abilities. Additional enrichment is available through participation in Jazz Club and Drumline, fostering creativity, teamwork, and performance experience.

Career Technical Education (CTE)
Norwood offers two periods of Computer Science that align with Career and Technical Education (CTE) requirements, helping students build valuable technology and critical-thinking skills that prepare them for future educational and career opportunities.

Resource Library
The school library offers a diverse collection of books across all reading levels and interests, ensuring that every student has access to engaging and appropriate reading materials. The library also supplements its collection with additional print and digital resources to support academic achievement, research, and lifelong learning.
