School Fact Sheet

To inspire each student to extraordinary achievement every day

School Highlights

Smythe Academy provides a safe, caring environment that highlights increasing students' experiences and learning in the arts and sciences. The curriculum for students includes weekly art and music instruction, hands-on science lab experiments, and numerous outside programs: tutoring, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), CREST, league sports, and a strong MASTERS after-school program. Smythe also offers family education opportunities such as community-based English classes for adults through TRUSD Adult Education, CAASPP for parents, infant/toddler parenting classes, and events like Coffee with the Principal and science, reading, and art nights.

While Smythe certainly has amazing teachers, the power of what happens in the classroom comes from the strength of individual teachers working as part of a team, connecting teacher strengths with student needs and working collaboratively to talk about teaching and learning, all to improve the academic achievement of our students.

Excellence in Education

  • All of our teachers are credentialed and highly qualified.
  • We have a full-time accredited counselor and an amazing, hardworking, dedicated staff who really believe in kids' potential and in building strong relationships with students and families.
  • CAASPP scores: In ELA and math, 40% and 34% of our students met or exceeded the standard during the 2023-2024 administration of the CAASPP, respectively. These rates exceeded the district rates for ELA and Math proficiency.
  • Students at Smythe have weekly art and music classes and a full-time science teacher who engages students in biweekly, hands-on lab experiences where they are being introduced to the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Science/STEM Fair program engaging all students in the scientific method.
  • One computer for every student, providing ample technological opportunities for success in the 21st century
  • Breakthrough Sacramento and Academic Talent Search promote a college-going culture that allows students to take classes on the CSUS campus Small group intervention supports targeted to student needs during and outside of the school day.
